Designer handbags... yay or nay?

I've never been into bags and own zero designer handbags.  Well, does Coach count as 'designer'?  I do own a couple Coach and Kate spade wallets/bags, but nothing above the price of $500.  I used to and still think it's pretty ridiculous to pay thousands of dollars especially when it can be compared to the average mortgage payments of a house.  But a few weeks ago, while walking around the mall, I saw a girl with the most common louis vuitton tote on her shoulder, and I can't stop thinking about that darn bag!  I've seen the bag before many times, but she just looked so great with it.  Would it be so horrible to purchase a designer handbag for no reason?  John has actually been telling me to get one for years now, but I just couldn't get myself to justify the purchase.  What is your opinion on designer handbags?  and I'm talking over $1000...

  1. Haha, I have the same issues with designer handbags. I own a few, but they were all gifts and nothing over $500. I think it's ok to have 1 designer bag, meaning over $500. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself. :)

  2. I guess if you can afford it, why not. I don't think all my bags combine equal 500 though!

  3. I say 'yay'.
The quality is worlds better & the designs are generally more unique & independent.

  4. I am like you, besides a couple Coach clutches I don't have handbags near the designer pricetags. I guess if you have the money go for it! At this time in my life I cannot justify purchasing something so expensive for myself. I have a Nine West I have had for years and years that holds up just fine, and I love it! Someday I will treat myself :) I'm your newest follower!

  5. Oh designer bags... I own Coach OUTLET bags - does that count? haha... Each one might average $100 or less though. At the moment I'm trying to convince my family/husband to get me a REAL Coach bag (about $300) for Christmas...haha. The rational part of me thinks its ridiculous to spend over $1000 for a bag. But the fashionista in me wants them so bad! I say if you can afford it why not? It's nice to treat yourself once in awhile. Especially if the bag is great quality and unique.

  8. I may be the wrong person to comment because I love handbags. I do own designer handbags which were purchased second hand, and you can't beat the quality. For me, once I went designer, I couldn't go back. Instead of buying a bunch of mediocre bags, I have decided to stick with just a few quality bags. And, Coach can be considered designer. I saw one that I wanted, and it was $798.

But, let's be honest, alot of women own more than one handbag which means do we really need more than one? So, I say think about how much you are going to use it to see if it's worth the price. Besides, treat yourself. You deserve it. Lord knows that once the baby is here, it may be a long time before you will be able to again! LOL!
